Posted on May 07, 2021
On 25 April the members of Macleans College Choir (MCC) performed at the 6 am and noon service for the ANZAC day services held at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
The students wore red poppies on this day of commemoration for the soldiers who came before us and to show their respects for the veterans and the families who lost loved ones.
The chorale performed for the public in two services, alongside Cantare; the Premier Girls’ Choir from Westlake Girls’ High School.
MCC performed a set of five songs, including traditional remembrance song “We will remember them” originally composed and written by Laurence Binyon. The choir sung two Maori pieces “Ka Waiata” By Richard Puanaki, arranged by S. Rapana and K. Bell featuring a descant by Marianne Reynecke (Hillary House) and Wei Tian Teo (Rutherford). The other being “Te Aroha Nui” by Sue Mepham. The choir performed a traditional Samoan song “Musu e” attributed to Eseta Paleta Palamo of Vaimoso ca.1900 and arranged by Steven Rapana. Lastly, the choir sang “Underneath the stars” a piece by Kate Rusby, arranged by Jim Clements and featuring soloists Wei Tian Teo and William Crozier (Upham).

The choir performed a deeply meaningful performance to show their respects. They could not have done so without the immense amount of work and support of their conductor, Mrs McNabb. Also many thanks to Ms Williams for being the choirs support crew.
