Macleans College chess players qualify for national competition

It was an exciting day for Macleans College chess players, with around 19 students representing the school at the Eastern Zone Chess Competition held at Bucklands Beach Intermediate School.
Approximately 120 students participated from the Eastern Zone Intermediate Schools and Colleges.
Macleans College A team placed 2nd and the B team won 1st position.
The B team members are: Justin Cui (Mansfield House), Patrick Lin (Kupe), Michael Lu (Mansfield), Edward Siew (Te Kanawa) and Jay Zhao (Rutherford). The A team members are: TJ Kichavadi (Batten), Allan Han (Batten), Alvin Cheng (Upham), Kevin Dai (Batten) and George Guo (Hillary).
Macleans College will therefore qualify to send a team of five to the national competition in Christchurch in October to compete for the National Chess Championship for Secondary Schools.
Congratulations to both the A team and B team for their tremendous efforts and achievement.
