The annual Macademy Awards celebrated filmmaking at Macleans College with 19 diverse student films showcased.
A bonus teacher-made comical film kicked off the sold out event, which literally rolled out the red carpet with arrivals greeted by the flashes of the paparazzi. The event was supported by Monterey Cinemas and Vish Arora from Ray White Real Estate Howick.
The films were judged by three expert judges: Nahyeon Lee (writer/director/producer), Mingjian Cui (director/writer) and Mark Mortensen (Media Studies teacher).
Congratulations to:
- Best Film: ‘Fish Bowl’ by Ivy Feng (Rutherford House)
- Best Direction: ‘Last Pin Standing’ by Isaac Uammuang (Kupe)
- Best Script: ‘A Reflection in Time’ by Madison Buckley (Rutherford)
- Best Performance: Sophie Hazel (Mansfield) for her performance in ‘Sleepover Slaughter’
- Best Cinematography: ‘Connection’ by Sarah Hurford (Kupe)
In addition to the judges awards, an Audience Choice award was voted for and awarded on the night. This award was supported by Vish Arora from Ray White Real Estate Howick and came with a voucher prize of $250. It was a tight result with a number of films in contention for the fan favourite title. Ultimately the animated ‘Last Pin Standing’ by Isaac Uammuang prevailed, featuring a platoon of bowling pins making a final stand against a relentless enemy.
Films from the evening are available to view on the Media At Macleans YouTube channel.
A number of the films from the evening have made it into contention for national film competitions. Macleans College wishes the filmmakers all the best and hope to celebrate more success soon.
