Macleans College celebrates Cook Islands Language Week
Posted on August 15, 2022
Kia orana. This month the Macleans College anau celebrated ‘Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani (Cook Islands Language Week).
The theme this year was: ‘Ātuitui’ia au ki te Oneone o tōku ‘Ui Tupuna which means: Connect me to the soil of my ancestors.
Here at Macleans College the Cook Islands anau is small but it was amazing to see so many different students and their cultures support the kaupapa of the week.
To begin the week students and staff sang: Te Atua Mou Ē - the national anthem of the Cook Islands while the flag was raised proudly in the morning sun. Throughout the week students and staff learnt a lot about the Cook Islands and celebrated the vibrancy of its beautiful culture.
On behalf of everyone involved we would like to thank all staff and students who supported the first ever celebration of Cook Islands Language Week.
