Macleans College celebrate National Maths Week

Macleans College students were buzzing with enthusiasm for Mathematics as they participated in Maths Week 2024.
Throughout the week of 12 - 16 August, each day featured a different maths-themed event.
On Monday students enjoyed maths trivia during form time followed by a Pi recital challenge during House assembly on Tuesday. The winner of this competition was Daniel Shahbazpour (Upham House).
Wednesday’s highlight was the Rubik’s Cube Competition during lunch time. It was a lively competition with many spectators and competitors. The top three students were Shaun Ye (Kupe), Joseph Tan (Te Kanawa) and Tiffany Li (Hillary).
Thursday brought the Mathex Logic Competition which was held in the amphitheatre during lunch time. Students competed in teams of four where they raced against other teams to answer challenging maths problems. The winners of this competition were Leo Xiao (Batten), Eric Chen (Batten), Roy Luo (Te Kanawa) and Kerek Liu (Te Kanawa).
The week concluded with a maths craft workshop during lunch time, featuring origami and sonobe units. Students had the opportunity to learn about different mathematical patterns through these hands-on activities.
The Maths Week committee decided on the winner of the maths-inspired Desmos Art Competition, congratulations to Jasper Jiang (Hillary).
