Macleans College basketballers place third in 3x3 championships

The Macleans College 3x3 basketball team recently competed in the Secondary Schools 3x3 Northern Championships held at Bruce Pulman Arena.
3x3 (pronounced 3 ex 3), also known as street ball or street basketball, is played on a half court with one hoop, and two teams of three members each, plus one substitute.
The team of Asher Langley (Snell House), Allen Li (Batten), Declan Puffy (Mansfield) and Quinn Hakaraia (Snell) put on an impressive outing in Macleans Colleges first time competing in 3x3 basketball. Over three days, the boys posted an 11-2 record, placing third in the open division.
Notable games included a nail-biting overtime win over One Tree Hill College, a heartbreaking one point semi finals loss to eventual winners Aorere College, and a convincing victory over Glendowie College in the third/fourth playoff matchup to redeem the loss to them in pool play.
Special thanks to the school’s travelling referee Jasper Xian (Mansfield).
