Macleans College academic achievements 2023

Macleans College continues to enhance its reputation as one of the top academic secondary schools in New Zealand.
Each year a growing number of students enter select university programmes around the world. The school’s focus on academic rigour, a knowledge-rich curriculum and a structured pedagogy provides students with optimum learning conditions.
The academic programme is supported by a caring whānau house system and an extensive extra-curricular programme.
The following students were recognised at the annual Macleans College Scholars’ Assembly, held on Thursday 7 March 2024.

2023 NZQA Scholarship results
- Macleans College students received 139 Scholarships.
- Six students achieved three or more Scholarships ($6,000).
2023 Dux
The Dux prize for 2023 is awarded to the Macleans College student who achieved the highest grades in the annual NZQA Scholarship examinations.
The Dux of Macleans College receives the Allen McDonald Scholarship. This scholarship was established by the Macleans College Parent Teacher Association in recognition of the contribution of Allen McDonald, the second Principal of Macleans College, particularly with regard to the school’s scholastic achievement. The scholarship is worth $2,000.
The Macleans College Dux of 2023 and recipient of the Allen McDonald Scholarship is awarded to Allan Han.
Allan received an NZQA Outstanding Scholars Award in 2022. This award is for Scholarship candidates who placed in the top 40-60 students in New Zealand. A truly remarkable feat as Allan achieved this as a Year 12 student and was named the Macleans College Proxime Accessit.
He is a CIE Top Achiever 2023 with a minimum of 2 A* Grades at A Level with A* Grades in Physics and Literature in English and an A Grade at A Level Further Mathematics.
In 2023 Allan also achieved Scholarship in Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, English, Geography, Health and Physical Education, Media Studies, Music, Physics, Religious Studies and Statistics.
In his time at Macleans College Allan’s extra-curricular has included Senior Boys Volleyball, World Scholars Cup Club, UNICEF, Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band. Allan has also been a member of the Esports Club, Football Senior Red team, Intercultural Club, Premier Chess, Debating Premier Advanced and Badminton A Grade teams. Allan also holds a Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. He was the Batten House Captain and a School Prefect.
2023 Proxime Accessit
This award is presented to Eric Deng.
Eric achieved Scholarship in Agriculture and Horticulture, Calculus, Chemistry, Health and Physical Education, Physics and Statistics.
Eric is also awarded a Top Achiever Award with a minimum of two A* grades at A Level with an A* in A Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics and an A grade in A Level Literature in English.
In extra-curricular, Eric was involved with Chorale, Digital leaders, Model United Nations Assembly, UNICEF, the Premier Table Tennis team and was Mansfield House Captain and a School Prefect.
