Maadi Cup Rowing Regatta 2021

Macleans College sent a team of 28 student rowers and coxswains to the final regatta of the season, the Aon Maadi Cup.
The Maadi Cup regatta is the national secondary school rowing championships, held over 6 days (22 – 27 March) on Lake Karapiro, near Cambridge. It is the biggest school regatta in New Zealand with 123 schools, 2,423 youth rowers participating, and 354 coaches.
It started on Sunday 21 March with all the schools taking part in the opening parade through the town of Cambridge. The rowing began in earnest on Monday 22 March with four days of heats, repechage and semi-finals and then finals racing on Friday and Saturday.
Macleans College rowers had a very successful regatta, a reflection of their effort and commitment to training and competing in preparation for the national championships. The team represented the school with huge pride and passion.
Key results
- 3 crews in C finals (top 24 crews in New Zealand)
- 7 crews in B finals (top 16 crews in New Zealand)
- 3 crews in A finals (top 8 crews in New Zealand)
Special congratulations to
- Laura McCabe (Snell House) bronze medallist (A final) in U17 girls single sculls
- Logan Turrall (Te Kanawa) and James Dimock (Te Kanawa) 5th A final U15 double sculls
- Ryan Gass (Kupe) 5th A final in U18 single sculls
The squad are looking forward to a well-earned break from early morning trainings.
Special thanks to the coaches Allan Vester, Waldo Singleton (Kupe House 2015 – 2019), Ffion Lewis (Snell House 2015 – 2019), Nick Chamberlain and Matt Botha (Kupe House 2016 – 2020) – their huge commitment and experience is reflected in the results from Maadi Cup and other regattas through the season.
