Learning spiced up with Japanese trivia quiz night

Posted on June 21, 2021

Year 10 Macleans College Japanese students participated in the annual Trivia Quiz Night on Friday 11 June at Epsom Girls’ Grammar School.

The event was held in eight regions across New Zealand, with teams answering the exact same quiz at the same time.

The New Zealand Japanese Language Teachers Association (NZAJLT) aimed to provide students an opportunity to use their cultural knowledge for a real purpose, to socialise with other students of Japanese and to acquire extra motivation to continue with their studies of Japanese at school and beyond.

The students enjoyed questions based on Japanese culture and general knowledge, outside the realm of in-class learning. The event has become a reputable tradition of fun learning.

The two teams of Riley Cassel (Kupe House), Callum Howells (Rutherford), Kelly Li (Batten), Jack Sweeney (Mansfield), Abbie Yeung (Rutherford), Andrew Chen (Te Kanawa), Marco Wei (Rutherford) and Emily Liu (Snell) thoroughly enjoyed the night together.

Former quiz participants Andrew Yao (Upham) and Sue Jynn Leong (Rutherford) kindly volunteered to MC the evening. Teachers of other schools commented on their skills and appreciated their help on the night.
