Leadership skills developed at 2024 prefect camp
Posted on February 15, 2024
Over 60 Macleans College school prefects kicked off the 2024 school year with a three-day prefect camp.
The group journeyed to Hunua Falls Camp with a supportive group of teachers. As the prefects unloaded their bags from the bus and gathered in the hall, they were introduced to their fellow prefects, along with the head prefect team, with whom they will collaborate with throughout the year.
Each day of camp presented unique opportunities and challenges. On the first day, teams were assigned tasks such as setting up the hall, preparing dinner and cleaning up. The second day was full of multiple team-building activities; a challenging hike through native bush and showcasing their creativity through original group skits. On the final day of camp the prefects took part in an exhilarating white-water rafting experience.
Cooking and cleaning became more than just chores; they became opportunities to get to know your teammates and forge connections. The various activities undertaken challenged the prefects mentally and physically, pushing their limits and strengthening the trust and support amongst the group. Performing team skits and a haka highlighted hidden talents in the group while also breaking down physical barriers. White-water rafting created strong interpersonal connections within the group as they witnessed one another overcoming their fears.
An important part of the camp was the opportunity to collaboratively brainstorm ideas and improvements for the upcoming year, putting plans in place to initiate positive changes at Macleans College.
In just three days, the 2024 prefect team became a tight-knit unit, relying on each other like never before. They look forward to an exciting year ahead.
