On Tuesday 13 August, two Year 11 Macleans College teams participated in the Maatangi Whenua Geography Competition held at St Cuthbert’s College.
The two teams consisted of three students each. They competed against 18 other teams from the Auckland region.
The students were required to complete eight different activities within a set amount of time. These activities included general knowledge, current events, map reading, playdough modelling, identifying human and natural factors, matching facts with New Zealand locations, analysing a country with clues given, and multiple choice questions.
Overall, both teams competed very well and came 7th and 8th out of 18 teams. They were able to gain new knowledge and experience during the competition which has helped boost their confidence in Geography in general.
