Kaitiaki Group members plant over 700 endemic plants in local wetland

Fifteen keen environmentalists from the Macleans College Kaitiaki Group spent last Wednesday afternoon planting over 700 endemic plants in a wetland in Clevedon.
Despite the frequent showers and considerable mud, spirits were high as they dug holes and replanted the many nīkau, mānuka, karamu and harakeke.
The Kaitiaki Group has partnered with the Trees for Survival programme over the past year to raise the plants from seedlings, so it was very rewarding to see the plants in their new home. This programme is one of the cornerstone activities that the Kaitiaki Group has been involved in this year and has provided an opportunity for the students to practically influence the environment for good, as well as learning about wetland restoration, revegetation, and the importance of biodiversity.
