Junior ESOL visit Sheepworld

Recently 64 students from the Junior ESOL Immersion programme visited Sheepworld, which is located four kilometres north of Warkworth.

Sheepworld provides an insight into farming in New Zealand. The students were treated to a display of sheepdogs rounding up the sheep under the instruction of a farmer. They also saw a shearing demonstration where Tracy Li from Kupe House and Dennis Zeng from Te Kanawa had the opportunity to try this skill with the farmer’s assistance. Kurt Yang from Rutherford tried his hand at drafting which required a keen eye to spot the colour on the sheep’s head to ensure the sheep went into the correct pen.

After the display students wandered through the small bush area and looked at the other animals on the farm. They especially enjoyed feeding the calves and baby lambs with bottles of milk. The experience was enjoyed by students and teachers.
