Junior ESOL Students Visit Sheep World

Recently the Junior ESOL Immersion classes of 62 students visited Sheep World in Warkworth just outside Auckland City.
Sheep World provides visitors with an insight into how we farm sheep in New Zealand and then harvest and use their wool.
The students observed the farm dogs at work as they rounded up a small flock of sheep. Then the farmer demonstrated the skill of shearing. Student Irene Imbanop (Hillary House) bravely tried her hand at shearing the sheep to the amazement of her peers. Jim Lyu (Mansfield) tried the skill of drafting sheep, which is the separation of sheep into male, female or a particular age group. The farmer was impressed with his first time attempt at this skill.
The students enjoyed the day and especially the opportunity to see baby lambs up close and to be able to feed them with a baby’s bottle.
