Junior ESOL students enjoy Chelsea Sugar Factory experience

Posted on July 06, 2021

On Wednesday 30 June 43 junior ESOL students and their teachers visited the Chelsea Sugar Factory, situated on the water’s edge of Birkenhead on the North Shore.

The factory was opened in 1884 and still remains on the original site. The sugar comes predominantly from Guatemala, Australia and Brazil by ship every eight weeks. It takes five days to unload a ship.

In 2018 Chelsea Sugar opened a new visitor experience centre which provides a factory tour, an education interactive zone and a state of the art baking experience.

The students thoroughly enjoyed baking their own melting moments and of course eating them. Everyone enjoyed their Chelsea Sugar experience.
