Joyous celebrations at annual Fiafia Night
Posted on November 11, 2024
This year’s annual Fiafia celebration was certainly a night to remember.
As always, the impressive and unparalleled performance of the Macleans College Aria choir set the tone for the night. The joyous celebrations that followed reminded the audience what the words Po Fiafia mean – Samoan words for a happy night. And that is exactly what the 2024 Fiafia symbolised - a night for whānau and friends to gather and celebrate culture in all its richness.
The joy in the faces of the performers and their whānau were moments of extreme pride. The vibrant colours, pageantry, grace, passion and melodies were stark reminders that this is what makes Macleans College special.
The evening ended on a high with the Macleans College Kapa Haka group, which has grown in strength and numbers this year. Their performance was enhanced by the inclusion of musical instruments such as the conch shell, pūtōrino (flute) and purerehua which creates a whistling sound. The group was led by powerful leaders and Mr Reed on the guitar.
Fa’afetai tele lava to all who attended.
