Japanese language skills strengthened at trivia championships

The annual New Zealand Schools Japanese Trivia Championships were held countrywide recently.

Schools from Auckland, Waikato, Manawatu, Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Tasman, Canterbury, Otago and Southland took part from their respective regions.

Two teams of Year 10 Japanese learners from Macleans College took part in the quiz. They were tested on topics such as sport and festivals, food and daily life, pop culture and geography. A creative costume competition was also held, which added to the fun atmosphere of the evening. Well done to Naomi Kwan (Snell House) and her team for the creative work.

The event was organised by the New Zealand Association of Japanese Language Teachers (NZAJLT) and is part of the celebration of the official language week in New Zealand. The goal is for students to acquire extra motivation to continue with their studies of Japanese at school and beyond.
