International students explore the enchanting village of Hobbiton

A group of eight international students from Macleans College recently made a trip to the Waikato region to explore a number of tourist attractions.

The students from Brazil and Germany first stopped at Hobbiton, the movie set which was a significant location used for The Lord of the Rings film trilogy and The Hobbit film trilogy. The perfect weather allowed the students to explore the lush pastures of the Shire and to view the many hobbit holes on display.

It was evident to the students how much hard work had been put into transforming the farmland into a 12-acre movie set. At the end of the tour the students stopped at the Green Dragon Inn to enjoy a nice cold ginger beer in a souvenir mug.

After lunch the group stopped at a strawberry farm and had a real fruit ice cream, while taking the opportunity to have a look around the strawberry fields. They then took the short drive into Hamilton to visit the Hamilton Gardens, where the students were given time to explore the beautiful, enclosed gardens in groups.

The day proved to be enjoyable and relaxing, while providing the visiting international students an opportunity to explore another region of New Zealand.
