International Languages Week 2022
Posted on June 23, 2022
Last week International Languages took centre stage, as Macleans College celebrated the languages taught at school, as well as the rich diversity of languages spoken by both staff and students.
The week was launched with a fun promotional video, in which a number of staff and students sang ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ in various different languages!
Many activities were organised throughout the week: in form classes and house assemblies, in language classes and during lunchtimes. The activities were both engaging and diverse; ranging from salsa dancing workshops and zumba, to cultural quizzes, martial arts demonstrations and kimono workshops. The week concluded with a small food festival in which students could purchase tasty treats from some food trucks.
Throughout the week the importance and value of languages were highlighted. Languages open a world of opportunities to us both personally and professionally; bringing people together, allowing for more meaningful interaction and teaching us to appreciate other views and ways of doing things.
The week was a great success, allowing both staff and students to engage with languages and cultures other than their own, in a fun yet educational manner.
