International Languages Week 2021

Posted on July 07, 2021

In Week 7 of Term 2, Macleans College celebrated International Languages Week.

The week started with a form class challenge, where the Languages Faculty set out to find Macleans College’s most multilingual form class. Students filmed themselves speaking the languages spoken by their form classes. They were amazed to discover that two form classes have speakers of 19 different foreign languages.

On Tuesday, students enjoyed listening to a traditional Japanese storyteller. On Thursday they celebrated with an International Languages food carnival. Students enjoyed delicacies from France, Latin America, and Spain with four food trucks visiting during lunchtime. Students could choose between empanadas, crepes, French cut fries, and other delicious treats.

The week finished off with a local Zumba instructor, Sabrina, joining the students at lunchtime to guide the students in Spanish and Latin American style dances.

Thank you to all of the students and staff who got involved in celebrating the wonderful array of languages spoken at our school.

Tōku reo, tōku ohooho, tōku reo, tōku māpihi maurea, tōku reo, tōku whakakai marihi - my language is my inspiration, my special gift, my special treasure.
