Instrumental success at the KBB Music Festival

The annual KBB Music Festival was held from Monday 7 – Saturday 12 August, with record numbers of entries from across Auckland and some from further afield.
Six groups represented Macleans College - Symphonic Band under the direction of Ms Huang, Sinfonietta under the direction of Mr Goh, Stage Band under the direction of Mr Santarelli, Chamber Orchestra under the direction of student conductor Wayne Gao and Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr Miles.
Bronze awards were presented to the Symphonic Band, Sinfonietta and Stage Band. Silver to the Chamber Orchestra who narrowly missed out on gold and gold awards for the Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra.
The Symphony Orchestra, the largest in the competition, received an invitation to perform at the evening gala concert on Saturday, placing them firmly among the top orchestras in Auckland once again.
Macleans College was also represented by two students in the honours orchestra, performing in a concert on Friday evening, Wayne Gao – clarinet (Snell House) and Ethan Zhang – violin (Kupe).
