Instrumental Showcase

Posted on August 21, 2017

On Sunday 13 August the Macleans Music Department presented an instrumental showcase in the Colin Prentice Auditorium.

The annual event gives an opportunity for the schools large competitive instrumental groups to perform prior to the KBB music festival.

Over 250 musicians took to the stage presenting original music representation of each genre (orchestral, concert band, jazz band) and arrangements of popular classics. Particular highlights of the concert were the Macleans College Chamber Orchestra who gave the world premiere of the 2nd movement of Peter Adams Violin Concerto with String Orchestra accompaniment. A re-transcription by the composer specifically for Macleans College and soloist Walter Xu (Hillary House) who excelled in the expressive work. Tony Yan Tong Chen (Mansfield) also impressed with his rendition of the finale from Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto accompanied by the Macleans Symphony Orchestra.

The six groups (Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonietta Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Stage Band and Senior Concert Band) now look toward their competitive performances at the KBB music festival with the aim of bringing home as much Gold as possible!
