Individual and Team Successes at the NZ Secondary Schools Swimming Competition

Macleans College students achieved a number of very impressive results at the NZ Secondary Schools Swimming Competition held at Waterworld in Hamilton earlier this month.
The team of 11 students won four individual and three relay medals finishing in a very commendable 14th place overall out of 69 participating schools.
The competition was a personal triumph for Gustav Campher (Kupe House) who won gold medals in the backstroke at 50, 100 and 200 metres. He won each of his races by well over a second and his times would have challenged swimmers three years his senior.
The other individual medal was won by Daniel Cieplinski (Kupe) who took the bronze in the 50 metres freestyle.
Macleans had a strong start to the competition taking third place in the Boys 15 and Under 200 metres Medley Relay. The team consisted of Gustav Campher, Kyle Chen (Te Kanawa), Jeremy Huang (Kupe) and Daniel Cieplinski.
The following day there was another third place in the Mixed 15 and Under 200 metres Freestyle Relay. The team members were Jeremy Huang, Anna Shimizu (Mansfield), Miandi Oosthuizen (Hillary) and Daniel Cieplinski.
Day three saw Macleans College finish second in a very exciting Mixed 15 and Under 200 metres Medley Relay. The successful team members were Gustav Campher, Anna Shimizu, Miandi Oosthuizen and Daniel Cieplinski.
There was also a fourth place in the Boys 15 and Under 400 metres Freestyle Relay and fifth place was secured in the Boys 15 and Under 200 metres Freestyle Relay.
This was a very strong overall performance by the Macleans College swimmers.
