Unforgettable experience for Senior ESOL Immersion students on inaugural camp
Posted on April 08, 2024
Macleans College Senior ESOL Immersion students attended the inaugural ESOL camp recently.
Held at Kokako Lodge, near Hunua, the students took part in challenging activities including archery, high and low beams, a vertical playpen, climbing wall and raft building.
The camp instructors were impressed by the commitment and determination of the students. One instructor commented ‘We were all blown away by (the) students’ attitude, willingness to get involved, and give things a go that they had never done before.’
The camp manager added ‘We here at Kokako Lodge have not stopped talking about the recent ESOL camp that came to our site. We have seen many camps from many different types of schools all across the demographic spectrum and this one has stood out to us as exemplary. The group of ESOL students that came were an amazing bunch of young adults who were attentive, engaged, participatory, brave, supportive and fun.’
An ESOL Immersion student emailed her teacher at the conclusion of the camp to share her positive feedback. ‘This is my first time going camping with whole classes. I really enjoyed my trip. I learnt quite a lot of things this time, it was an unforgettable experience. I gained valuable friendships, useful skills and many rare qualities - such as teamwork, hands-on ability, self-challenge and independence. I am very glad that I can have such an opportunity to challenge myself. I am also grateful to all the staff of the ESOL department for planning our activities and taking care of us at our camp. I wish we could have more chances to organise activities like this. Thanks a lot for doing all these things for us.’
Well done to all of the Senior ESOL Immersion students for putting in 100% effort and upholding the Macleans College values.
