A team of three Macleans College riders travelled to Taupo over the weekend of 20 May to compete in the two-day North Island Secondary Schools Horse Trials.

The team consisted of Charlotte Owen (Snell House) riding Sweet Indiana, Kate McKeen (Hillary) riding Shadow and Indi Sutherland (Te Kanawa) aboard Paton.

Charlotte competed in the highest level of the competition jumping 95cm heights in showjumping and over a bold cross-country course. Although battling against bad weather conditions, Charlotte jumped clear in both her jumping rounds completing the competition on her dressage score and finishing in ninth place out of 47 A Level competitors.

Kate and Indi both competed in the 80cm competition with both riders making it through the dressage and showjumping phases to take on the challenging cross-country course. Kate also finished her competition with no jumping faults in either the cross-country or the showjumping courses. This saw her placed a creditable seventh place in this class.
