Hungry crowds sell-out ESOL market day

The Macleans College gymnasium was a flurry of activity on Wednesday 21 August as ESOL Business Studies students held their annual market day.
Prior to the event, the students prepared and researched a business plan. They wrote a mission statement, decided upon SMART objectives, undertook a SWOT analysis and planned a marketing campaign based on their newly acquired knowledge of the marketing mix.
The students also learnt about finance and how to calculate their break-even point, with a focus on making money on the day.
On the day, hungry crowds were offered a selection of home-made food, from mochi desserts to fruit tea, fried noodles, hot chocolate, oden soup, tiramisu, mango sago smoothies and much more. The stalls proved to be so popular that they had all sold out before lunchtime had finished.
Being able to prepare food to be sold on market day was a huge achievement for the ESOL Immersion students, as they were required to overcome the challenges of creating a small business and reaching out to customers in a second language which they are still mastering.
