A team of two Year 11 Macleans College students Jay Zhao (Rutherford House) and Alston Yam (Mansfield) secured the prestigious second place in the school category at the New Zealand Programming Contest (NZPC).
This achievement marks a historic milestone for Macleans College since its participation in the event first began back in 2018.
The NZPC, an annual competition, challenges teams of up to three contestants from all corners of New Zealand to tackle 16 highly demanding computer programming problems over the course of a rigorous five-hour event. Remarkably, these problems are the same across all categories, spanning from school-level participants to seasoned professional programmers.
What makes Jay and Alston's accomplishment even more impressive is that their score exceeded that of the second-place finisher in the tertiary intermediate category. Their dedication and exceptional problem-solving skills truly shone in this challenging competition.
This victory surpasses Macleans College's previous best results of third place in 2018 and third place in 2020 (online).
