Macleans College highly commended at New Zealand Engineering Science Competition
Posted on October 17, 2024
Macleans College entered 12 teams of students in the New Zealand Engineering Science Competition.
A total of 275 teams from 83 schools around the country participated. This year, the problem was ‘how many airships would be required to replace the Cook Strait Ferries?’
On the day of the competition, the question was posted at 10.00 am by the Engineering Department at the University of Auckland. In small groups, the students then spent the bulk of the day generating their solution - which they submitted before the deadline of 6.00 pm.
The students required many skills in the areas of physics, logical thinking and writing - plus an ability to work in a team. No assistance was allowed to be provided by any person outside their team.
The Macleans College team of Alston Yam (Mansfield House), Bruce Zhang (Mansfield), Jay Zhao (Rutherford) and Tony Yu (Rutherford) received a Highly Commended award.
