Helen Wu, Year 12, from Te Kanawa House proudly represented her house and Macleans College at the national final of the Lions Club Speech Contest in Wellington over the weekend. She won the regional contest in June.
Helen said, “The competition was outstanding and the winner really deserved it, a very personal story told powerfully. The organisers were wonderful and I had a very nice homestay. It was a great experience.”
“Helen is a very talented speaker and she has one more year at school, which I am pleased about,” her speaking coach Mr Green said. “She is really strong in the impromptu section though the topic this year was a bit challenging, ‘I wonder why’.”
Impromptu speeches present the speaker with an unknown topic one minute before they go on stage to speak and the speaker must speak for one to two minutes.
