Guest speakers from Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand visit Macleans College

The Macleans College Interact Club appreciated two representatives from Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand (CFNZ) who took the time to speak to the student members.

Lisa Burns, the Chief Executive of CFNZ, along with Lizzie McKay shared their personal stories of cystic fibrosis, and what their organisation does. The Interact Club students were able to see how their fundraising efforts contribute to the cause.

Lizzie’s first-hand experience with cystic fibrosis exposed the students to the lives that more than 540 New Zealanders live. Growing up with cystic fibrosis or any illness, holds a certain amount of daily uncertainty. In one moment you could be in the best shape, and in the next, you could be admitted to hospital. The initiative of the Interact Club enables the students to fundraise to support those with cystic fibrosis and their families.

CFNZ utilises the money raised by supplying and providing care packs to children who are in the hospital and their whānau. As well as this, the money raised goes towards funding the research and production of the medications that many cystic fibrosis patients rely on. There is no certain cure for this genetic disease. These efforts prove that a little really does go a long way in supporting numerous patients and their families around New Zealand Aotearoa.

Lisa and Lizzie's insights provided the club with valuable information and a much stronger connection to cystic fibrosis. The Macleans College Interact Club will be sure to draw on this experience and utilise everything they have learned towards their fundraising efforts in the years to come.
