2018 Girl Empowerment Conference

A student led and organised event called The Girl Empowerment Conference commenced at Macleans College on Saturday 16 June with 60 students from eight schools, business mentors and a Member of Parliament.

The Girl Empowerment Conference was a full day, annual business competition for young female students from across schools in Auckland. It was formed last year by Macleans College student, Anjie Wang (Kupe House).  Its mission is to provide advice, motivation and the skills to help propel the growth of female entrepreneurs.

The day consisted of an inspirational talk from Chlöe Swarbrick, the youngest Member of Parliament in New Zealand, about her life and career. This was followed by a business competition where the students were split into teams to find a way of empowering women in society by creating a business. Groups presented to a panel of business women from the community. The top three teams were presented cash prizes provided by the sponsors Massey University, Auckland University and NZ Steel.
