Get to Go Junior 4 Hour Adventure Race

Posted on August 29, 2016

Macleans College recently competed in the Get to Go Junior 4 hour Adventure Race held around Auckland City.

Nathan Hey (manager) accompanied the team of eight students: Hannah Tong Ho (Mansfield House), Byron Woods (Upham), Caitlin Harley (Upham), Isaac Black (Upham), Kathryn Zhou (Upham), Zoe Holt (Upham), Jonathan Li (Snell) and Matthew Wilson (Kupe). The team, despite little team preparation, ranked a well-deserved third, going up against teams that have not only been competing for the last three years but have trained hard for this specific event.

The adventure race involved kayaking, mountain biking, a Rogaine race, and advanced team problem solving.

The team did remarkably well, placing first in the kayaking, second equal in the team problem solving, and second in the mountain biking and Rogaine. This placed the team just twenty points short of qualifying for the finals held on Great Barrier Island at the end of the year. Only the number one team goes through to the finals.

Our hopes are obviously high for next year’s Get to Go to hopefully qualify, given little training time as a team this year.
