Geography students gather data at Eastern Beach
Posted on March 14, 2024
A group of one hundred Year 11 Macleans College Certificate (MCert) Geography students took part in their first experience of geographic field work recently.
The students were tasked with creating a location proposal for a second boat ramp at Eastern Beach, located only a few hundred metres from Macleans College. Four potential sites were chosen by Geography teachers and the students had to gather data at each site to help them decide and justify which site would be most beneficial.
Wind speed, wind direction and a profile of the beach were measured at each location which was considered alongside photographic evidence.
This keen group of student geographers are now using the data they collected to write up their proposals in the classroom.
