The Year 12 Geography trip, comprising of two classes started their three-day adventure to Tongariro National Park on 11 May with much anticipation for the experiences ahead.
On the way to the National Park accommodation at Piper’s Lodge, the students stopped at the base of the Whakapapanui Stream, the Whakapapa Visitor Centre, and the Whakapapa Ski Village, before heading for a hot meal and a well-earned sleep.
Day two brought more adventures beginning with an amazing trek to the Taranaki Falls before starting data collection. Stopping at the Whakapapa Visitor Centre for a talk with their geographers allowed the students to gain more insight on the places they were studying. After a quick stop at the Mangawhero Falls, the classes made their way to the Turoa Ski Field. At 1620m high and a chilly 6 degrees, the students collected their data faster than ever, before heading back to Piper’s Lodge for the final night after a visit to the Tokaanu Hot Pools.
On the final day the students stopped at the Rangipo Desert to collect the final pieces of data before heading back to school.
