Gala Concert returns

On Monday 26 September, the Macleans College Gala Concert took place at the Due Drop Events Centre, Manukau.
A welcome return to the calendar after the interruptions in recent years caused by COVID-19 lockdowns – the last annual Gala was held in 2019.
Almost 300 students took to the stage in a variety of performances including; Kapa Haka, Macappella (Barbershop Chorus), Chorale, vocal soloists Lexie Buchanan and Will Crozier (both of Upham House), Concert Band, String Quartet, Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra.
The concert concluded with combined items from the Symphony Orchestra and Chorale which were particular crowd favourites - Amazing Grace featuring beautiful lyrical violin solo playing by Lorna Zhang (Mansfield) and When You Believe (from the Prince of Egypt) featuring vocal soloists Billie-Jean Hartnoll (Upham) and Mandy Jing (Batten).
The Gala Concert was a wonderful return to music making on the big stage and hopefully a sign of return to normality.
