Fourth place for Macappella at Barbershop Nationals

Posted on October 15, 2024

In the final week of term three, Macappella, led by Melody Lowe, competed at the Barbershop National Finals held in the Lower Hutt Town Hall, Wellington.

The girls gave their finest performance of the year and secured a fourth placing with less than 1% separating second, third and fourth positions. Their performances of ‘Over the Rainbow’ and ‘When the Red, Red Robin Goes Bob Bobbing’ were well received by the large and supportive audience which marked the end of an era for Macappella, with the retirement of long-time musical director Melody Lowe.

Melody has led the Macleans College Macappella superbly for the past 15 years, guiding numerous quartets and choruses to regional and national success. The girls paid tribute to their formidable leader at a group dinner following their performance, giving thanks for her many years of commitment to the school.

Macleans College thanks Melody for this incredible contribution and wishes her well for the future.
