Two former Macleans College students have been named as top five finalists for the 2018 APRA Silver Scroll Award, recognising excellence in song writing.

The songs nominated are “Laugh it Off” written by Chelsea Jade Metcalf (Batten House 2003 – 2007) and “Future Me Hates Me” written by Elizabeth Stokes (Kupe House 2004 – 2008) and performed by The Beths, of which former student Jonathan Pearce (Te Kanawa House 2003 – 2007) is also a member.

In 2015 Chelsea Jade Metcalf relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her career and write songs for others.  She was awarded the APRA Professional Development award in 2017 for her work in the field of pop song writing.  Her long-awaited debut album “Personal Best” was released back in July.  This is the second year in a row that Chelsea Jade Metcalf has been nominated for the Silver Scroll.

Auckland-based band The Beths have just released their debut album “Future Me Hates Me”.  The four-piece band play The Other’s Way Festival in Auckland on Friday 31 August, before undertaking an album release tour of New Zealand, Australia, USA, Europe and the UK.

The APRA Silver Scroll Award is considered one of the most coveted awards in New Zaland music and has previously been awarded to artists such as Dave Dobbyn, Neil Finn, Bic Runga, Brooke Fraser and Lorde. The awards ceremony takes place on 4 October at Spark Arena.
