Two former Macleans College students have been awarded a University of New South Wales (UNSW) Co-op Program Scholarship in 2022.
Abhinav Chawla (Snell House 2017 – 2021) in Finance and Banking and Samuel Zheng (Mansfield House 2017 – 2021) in Software Engineering.
The UNSW Co-op Program is a career development scholarship that develops scholars into professionals, not just graduates at the end of their university degree. The program incorporates industry experience, leadership, and professional development, networking, mentoring, and financial support.
Candidates are selected not only on the basis of their academic ability, but also their communication skills, motivational and leadership potential. The scholarship is valued at $19,600 per year for four years and can be used to support the scholar throughout their time at university.
Abhinav was a Head Prefect at Macleans College in 2021. He represented New Zealand at the 2019 and 2020 International Economics Olympiads, where he was awarded a silver medal and gold medal respectively. In the 2021 NZQA Scholarship examinations he was awarded more than three scholarships. Abhinav received an Auckland University Top Achiever Scholarship at the 2021 Macleans College Senior Prizegiving.
Samuel was awarded the Trenwith Cultural Cup for Boys and an Auckland University Top Achiever Scholarship at the 2021 Macleans College Senior Prizegiving. He was named the Chorale Singer of the Year in 2021.
