Riki Fujii Rajani (Rutherford House 2008 – 2012) returned to Macleans College this week, after an absence of ten years.
Besides catching up with her CAIE A Level Economics teacher, Mr Hargreaves, the visit gave Riki the opportunity to speak to senior economics students curious to know where the subject could take them in terms of a career. She also touched on subject content examined in the classroom including a discussion around the actions taken by the Reserve Bank to counter the effects of the pandemic and some of the current consequences of these actions.
Riki herself has completed a conjoint Commerce and Law degree at the University of Auckland. Work experience in banking and law firms helped her realise a personal interest in policymaking. This has led to her currently studying towards a Masters of Public Policy at the University of Chicago.
Touching on her time at Macleans College, Riki mentioned the value of participating in extra-curricular activities which helped develop her communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people. She also stressed the importance of personal motivation and a strong work ethic.
