Former Macleans College student Henry Lee (Te Kanawa House 1989 – 1992) is enjoying success in the cold brew coffee industry.
Henry is the owner and operator of niche cafe Gourmet Espresso in East Tamaki, where he shares his love of cold processed coffee. The café is currently open on Saturdays from 4.00 pm to midnight and exclusively serves ice brew tastings and a rotating food menu.
Henry spent seven years perfecting his ice brew method, which he was able to further refine during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Last year Henry entered two of his specialty coffees into the Australian International Coffee Awards. He won the champion trophy in the Cold Brew category, a category that had not had a gold medal winner in four consecutive years.
Henry told Bean Scene Magazine “I entered my ice brew creations into Australian International Coffee Awards 2020 in a bid to compare myself against international peers and to gain recognition for my work.”
Looking to the future, Henry aims to become a pioneer in innovative cold process coffee brewing and to bottle his coffee to export overseas.
