A naming ceremony for the newly opened McDonald Science Block took place at Macleans College last week.

The McDonald Science Block is named in honour of Mr Allen McDonald, Macleans College Principal from 1989 to 1999. As the schools second principal, Mr McDonald was instrumental in cementing Macleans College as one of the academic powerhouses amongst New Zealand schools.

At the ceremony, Mr McDonald spoke of his pride in the school and how pleased he is to see the school adhering to the foundation values upon which the school was built.

Naming the new science block after Mr McDonald was fitting as the sciences are an area of academic strength at Macleans College, and this honours his contribution to this area of the school.

The ceremony was also attended by three current staff members; Mr Peek, Mr Lonergan and Mr Becroft who worked with Mr McDonald during his time as principal.
