First Place at Annual Calcex Competition
Posted on November 04, 2020
Macleans College sent one team to participate in the annual Auckland Schools' Calcex Competition, held at Pakuranga College on 30 October.
Despite the event taking place in the midst of the CAIE examination period, the team arrived committed and enthusiastic.
The competition is a hybrid of mathematics and running, similar to the Year 9 and 10 Mathex competition but with much harder questions drawn from the Calculus area of Mathematics. The final results were determined by a tiebreaker between Macleans College and Mount Albert Grammar School who has won the competition for the last three years. After succeeding in finding the correct answer to the tiebreaker question, Macleans College was placed first, winning the competition.
The Macleans College team consisted of Darsh Chaudhari (Batten House), Victor Li (Mansfield), Alex Jin (Mansfield), and Ellen Wang (Snell).
Many thanks to Mr Mitchell and Mr Buckley for all their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication in preparing the Macleans College team for this event.
