Posted on October 27, 2020
During the General Election earlier this month former Macleans College student Ingrid Leary (Kupe House, 1985) became the Member of Parliament for the newly formed electorate of Taieri in South Otago. She is one of Labour’s 22 new MP’s.
During her career Ingrid has worked with distinction both as a journalist and as a lawyer. More recently she was a director of British Council New Zealand.
In 2006 Ingrid was awarded the New Zealand Special Service Medal for her broadcasting work in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian earthquake and tsunami in Aceh. She also helped to set up the journalism school at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji and lectured there on journalism.
Ingrid has had previous experience of Parliamentary life having been the press secretary for former Pakuranga MP Maurice Williamson.
We wish Ingrid every success in her new role.
