Macleans College has had a very successful rock climbing season, which has incorporated weekly climbing sessions (for competitive and social participants) as well as four school competitions.

Two of the competitions have been for top rope climbing and the other two for bouldering.

The final competition of the season was held at Boulder Co on Sunday 14 August and all nine Macleans College students competed well. Special mention to Joshua and Cullen Campbell (both Batten House) for making the finals in the Intermediate Boys competition, and Cullen for placing second in a fiercely fought battle.

In terms of performance throughout the season, Macleans College students can be proud of their efforts, with a number of students making finals in the different competitions.

After four rounds of competition the following students are worthy of special mention:

  • Cullen Campbell placed 1st overall in the Intermediate Boys competition
  • Joshua Campbell placed 4th overall in the Intermediate Boys competition
  • Tara Barrett (Upham) placed 9th overall in the Intermediate Girls competition
  • Lydia Anderson (Mansfield) placed 8th overall in the Senior Girls competition
  • Livleen Kaur (Mansfield) placed 9th overall in the Senior Girls competition
  • Jazmyn Crowther (Rutherford) placed 10th overall in the Senior Girls competition and was awarded a trophy for being the most improved senior girl.

The competition for the top school overall was intense throughout the season, with Macleans College occupying either first or second place after each competition. At the conclusion of the fourth competition, Macleans College finished up the season third overall out of the 54 schools entered. This is a first class effort and shows the depth of talent here at school.

Four students from the school will compete shortly in the national competition in Tauranga.
