Posted on February 28, 2019

On Saturday 16 February in the early hours of the morning the Macleans College Adventure Race team took part in the Taupo Great Lake Relay.

Mr Hey and Mrs Durham had the privilege to take nine students down to compete in the gruelling 155 km race.

The team did exceptionally well competing against adult teams and posting an impressive 11th place out of 56 teams, finishing in 12hours 57 minutes. The legs ranging from 6.5 to 14.4km were run in early morning cold and fog to intense heat during the afternoon. The students were expected to run two legs throughout the event.

The team ran with grit and determination with many students posting their personal bests.

The team was Matthew Wilson (Kupe House), Connor McLeay (Snell), Emma Hjorth (Mansfield), Grace Huang (Snell), Amelia Winstone (Kupe), Kathy Pu (Rutherford), Elizabeth Koh (Upham), George Fisher (Batten) and Jonathan Li (Snell). They were very happy to have a soak in the Rotorua hotpools as a welcomed treat for their hard work after the competition was finished.
