Excellent results achieved at the North Island and Maadi Cup Rowing Regattas

The Macleans College Rowing club have finished their season with excellent results at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships and Maadi Cup Regatta.

North Island Secondary Schools Championships

Held from 10-12 March, with 1,780 competitors from 79 schools, Macleans College rowers trained hard for this regatta. Their hard work was rewarded with some impressive results.

Boys A finals

  • U18 double sculls – 7th Daniel Taylor (Mansfield House), Jeandre Van Gruening (Mansfield)
  • U18 quad coxed sculls – 6th Daniel Taylor, Jeandre van Gruening, Logan Turrall (Te Kanawa), James Dimock (Te Kanawa), Isabella Chen (Hillary)
  • U17 single sculls – 4th Logan Turrall
  • U17 double sculls - 2nd (silver medal) Logan Turrall, James Dimock
  • U16 single sculls – 7th Nathan Strachan (Rutherford)
  • U15 double sculls – 3rd (bronze medal) Ben High (Hillary), Declan Mclean (Te Kanawa)
  • U18 novice double sculls – 3rd (bronze medal) Nathan Strachan, Gus Thompson (Upham)

Maadi Cup Regatta

Held from 27 March – 1 April at Lake Karapiro, the Maadi Cup Regatta is the New Zealand’s national schools regatta. This is one of the biggest school regattas in the southern hemisphere with over 2,000 competitors from 113 New Zealand schools. The standard of competition is very high.

The weather conditions were fine all week and Macleans College achieved some outstanding results with many crews placing in the top eight crews in New Zealand.
