Excellent performance in the Great Forest Rogaine

On 27 July, Mr Hey and Ms Durham took the adventure race team down to Whakarewarewa Forest in Rotorua.
In teams of two to four the students navigated to controls that were scattered throughout the forest for three hours.
The teams, ranging in experience, all did well and many lessons were learnt from route choices and bush bashing shortcuts. Competing against 16 teams the students had to collect as many controls as possible within the time frame and be back at the finish line before the three hours ran out. Severe penalties were given to those late and all of the controls had different points values.
One of the teams did exceptionally well and won the junior competition (under 20 year olds), placing first. The team called the Triangle consisted of Nico Muller (Kupe House), Connor McLeay (Snell House) and Sarah Hjorth (Kupe).
It was an exceptional event that challenged all those that participated, and illustrated the effort and training that the students have been doing was worth it when they faced the steep hills and muddy conditions of the forest.
