ESOL students enjoy end of year activities

The Macleans College English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) classes kept busy towards the end of Term 4 with a range of organised activities.
Cooking
The ESOL students had the opportunity to participate in a cooking lesson in the new Home Economics room.
The junior students enjoyed making coconut coated bliss balls and the senior students made toasted paninis filled with healthy vegetables. Each student in the small groups worked together either cutting, mixing, measuring, stirring or cooking to complete the task.
It was a hive of activity as they worked enthusiastically in these practical lessons.
Christmas tree making
With Christmas approaching, students made their own wooden Christmas trees in the new Technology Block under the instruction of the Woodwork teachers and their ESOL teachers.
Cautiously students cut their patterns on the machinery and then sanded, painted and decorated their trees. Finally, lights were inserted through drilled holes.
The students were delighted and proud of themselves with the end product which they could take home to share with family.
Beach clean-up
As their service to the community ESOL students recently walked down to the local Eastern Beach to clean a portion of the beach. They were amazed at how much rubbish covered the sand and how quickly they filled up their bags with litter.
Following the beach clean-up the students were treated to a traditional BBQ of sausages with tomato sauce in bread. Then they played a few iconic games such as quoits, swingball and pétanque.
This was a fun way to head towards the end of the year and create an awareness of the importance of safeguarding our natural resources.
