ERO praises Macleans College outstanding level of excellence
Posted on November 02, 2018
The Education Review Office (ERO) has completed its report on the audit of Macleans College carried out in Term Three.
In its first report since 2014, ERO highlighted the many opportunities the school provides students to achieve success and pointed to the fact that over 90% of students achieve University Entrance.
The ERO staff picked up immediately on the high quality teaching - the productive and engaging classrooms that lead to excellent student outcomes. Areas of special praise highlighted in the report were Learning Support, ESOL and student guidance. ERO also strongly praises the school’s vision for education in the 21st century.
The quality of school leadership is described as “highly effective” and encompasses senior, middle and student leadership groups. The progress made with the Bicultural curriculum is given a lot of prominence. Special comment is made about compulsory Māori Studies in Year 9 and access to Te Reo programmes through to Year 13.
Administratively, ERO praises how well the school is run and the attention given to student safety and wellbeing. They were also highly appreciative of the quality of pastoral care given to the International students.
The Principal Mr Steven Hargreaves when commenting on the ERO report said, “it is an exceedingly positive endorsement of the work of the school and of the positive, supportive and well-structured environment at Macleans College. For such a report to be written without any recommendations is incredibly rare. It is a sign of the comprehensive planning and drive for constant improvement that is part of how we operate at Macleans College. We know our students get fantastic results – in and out of the classroom – but to have an independent agency give us such a glowing report is very reassuring”.
This is a report Macleans College can be extremely proud of.
