Equestrian excellence

Towards the end of last term the Macleans College Equestrian Team took part in the Eventers Team Challenge at Puhinui.
This competition formed part of the prestigious Puhinui International Horse Trials event, which drew large numbers of competitors and crowds. The eventers’ challenge consisted of a derby where riders completed a course of 6-8 show jumps followed by the cross-country phase of jumps.
The Macleans College team consisting of Sam Keane (Batten House), Hayley Newington (Hillary), Zalia Tornquist (Snell) and Dylan Van Wyk (Hillary) placed 2nd in the 80cm height division. Sam placed 4th individually. The team also were awarded the Team Spirit award, which was based on their sportsmanship.
Nathan Poole (Mansfield) also represented Macleans College in a composite team where he joined riders from Pinehurst School. This team took 1st place in the 80cm height division.
This was a successful year of competition for the team.
